The Fresh Snack Program (FSP) provides education and full servings of fresh, healthy snacks to all students in both Beverly J. Martin and Enfield Elementary schools – both with over 70% free/reduced lunch participation. FSP replaces less nutritious classroom snacks, increases access to fruits and vegetables, and familiarizes students with healthier food choices. Help us provide these kids with more fresh snacks!
FSP provides students with a full serving of a fresh, healthy school-day snack made from fresh vegetables, fruits, or legumes (beans), from local sources when possible, along with integrated educational programming. Since 2008, this program has been operated in BJM Elementary under previous leadership as the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Snack Program. Now managed by Wood’s Earth, the Fresh Snack Program is partnering with Ithaca City School District to pilot FSP operations through the district’s central kitchen and expand to more schools, including Enfield! Snacks range from baked winter squash with pure local maple syrup-and-raisin glaze, to marinated pepper and cucumber salad, to bean dip with carrots, to raw fresh veggies and fruits!
Next year, we are expanding the FSP central kitchen pilot from one day/week to two days/week at both BJM and Enfield Elementaries – & we need your support!
